    Top tips on shopping!

Since shopping seems to be a year-round favorite pastime for most Pinoys, these top tips on how to be a smart shopper should come in handy anytime.

    1. Wear simple but comfortable clothes. And please no expensive nor expensive-looking jewelry so you don’t attract pickpockets and snatchers.

    2. Use a bag with a shoulder strap so that you can tote it in front of you or tuck it under your arm. Be sure to hold your bag all the time and it’s only your other hand that’s holding items that you are examining or choosing.

    3. Look carefully at the weighing scale when buying fruits, vegetables, meat, fish and other products sold by the weight. When buying items that are measured like ribbons, garters and fabric, watch the measurement carefully. Otherwise, you could be cheated by a few centimeters or inches.

    4. Inspect clothes you’re buying for working zippers, complete buttons, etc. Also check for holes and snags.

    5. Make sure you’re paying the correct price. Almost all goods in shops and supermarkets have Universal Product Codes. These are the marks with vertical lines and numbers that are read by the cashier’s electronic scanner. This gadget is not 100% fool-proof so look at the display screen of the cash register while your goods are being scanned.

    6. Bring the store’s flier or advertisement to compare the published price with the scanned price. Sometimes reduced or promotional prices are not immediately programmed in the computer.

    7. Check your receipt before leaving the counter. If you notice an error, complain immediately so that it can be rectified right away. If you wait till you get home to check your receipt, you will spend more for fare or gasoline and parking fee, not to mention time, to go back to the store.

    8. Avoid paying with a P1,000 bill for small purchases. The vendor, cashier or attendant will drop or hide it discreetly and claim that you handed him/her only a P500 bill. If you have no other bill, tell the cashier or attendant that you handed him/her a P1,000 bill. In another scam, you will be told that your bill is fake but the cashier, vendor or attendant already replaced your genuine bill with a fake one when you were not looking.

    9. Don’t carry big amounts of cash. Pickpockets and snatchers are on the look-out for them.

    10. To avoid bringing big amounts of cash, use your BancNet ATM card to pay for your purchases at department stores, shops, supermarkets and other business establishments. You avoid the long lines at the ATM and save time. It’s easy to shop with your BancNet ATM card. The cashier will swipe your card at the terminal, you input your ATM PIN and voila! Your payment is electronically deducted from your ATM account. What’s more, you can earn cash rebates when you pay with your BancNet ATM card. For every P25 transaction, you are rewarded 1 point. Accumulate your rewards points and exchange them for cash rebates. The more points, the bigger your rebates. It pays to be a smart shopper! Happy Shopping!

Elevate your lifestyle: Go cashless when you shop

In a bid to expand the shopping network of its ATM cardholders, BancNet embarked on a strategic merchant acquisition campaign that targeted retailers with multiple branches and affiliations, such as those catering to a high-end clientele. BancNet now counts as partners the Store Specialists which include the brands Lacoste, Nine West, Salvatorre Ferragamo, Springfield, Anne Klein, Armani Exchange, Beauty Bar, Philipe Charriol and Lush; Robinsons Specialty Stores which include international brands Topshop, Truco Warehouse and Dorothy Perkins; and Duty Free Philippines.

Nikki Causing, Robinsons Retail Group’s financial services manager explains that there has been an increase in debit shoppers. “A lot of people get their salaries through their ATMs. Especially during pay days and sale season, it becomes convenient for them to shop using their ATM than the traditional way of lining up to use the ATM, withdraw cash and pay cash to the stores. For security reasons, ATM cardholders now prefer debit shopping.”
Unlike credit cards that enable purchase even without cash on hand, ATM cards only allow purchase when the account balance is sufficient. This, Causing explains, bodes well during the present times when people hold on to their hard-earned money. “Nowadays, a lot of people are trying to live within their means. This allows us to see more opportunities in debit shopping,” he says.

Carmina Quizon, general manager of Robinsons Specialty Stores, Inc. notes that cashless shopping through BancNet ATM complements their store’s trademark of convenient shopping and excellent customer service. “Our stores carry the latest stocks that go with the global trends. It is very convenient to shop in Robinsons Specialty Stores that include Topshop, Topman, Truco, Warehouse and Dorothy Perkins.”

She adds that the Robinsons Specialty Stores bring the latest trends from around the world. “Now, less people want to travel because most of the items abroad may be found here. And everything is price competitive.”

Causing adds that being the “family store,” the Robinsons Retail Group also features the hardware and home improvements stores Handyman and True Value; toy store Toys “R” Us; and one-price concept store Saizen.
