Transact Only through Secure Websites
- Do business only with companies you know and trust. Make sure that you carefully review the privacy and security statements of the web sites on which you transact business.
- Beware of phony "look alike" websites, which are designed to trick consumers and collect their personal information. If you suspect a website that is not what it purports to be, leave the site. Do not follow any of the instructions it may present to you.
- To visit the BancNet website, type the URL (Universal Resource Locator) directly onto your browser or use your personal bookmark. - for BancNet, the URL is www.bancnetonline.com.
- All BancNet websites asking for sensitive information such as Card number and PIN number will have valid security certificates. You can check the security certificates by looking for the yellow padlock symbol on the lower right of the status bar of your Internet Browser; if the lock is closed, this signifies that the website is encrypted to protect you when you enter sensitive information. This symbol may only be present when the website is requesting you for your information. Unfortunately, even the lock icon can be faked. For further safety, double-click on the lock icon to display a security certificate information page of the site confirming the validity of the certificate and verify the website source which should be "www.bancnetonline.com" If any of these tests fails, please contact our BancNet Helpdesk at +63 (2) 856-8131.
- Avoid public computer terminals such as those in Cyber-Cafes when accessing your bank account information. If you do use these public terminals, make sure to clear the memory cache and transaction history before closing the Internet browser to remove any remaining information and avoid incidents of the stored information being retrieved by unwanted parties.
- Launch your Internet Explorer and click on "Tools" >> "Internet Options" >> "General".
- Under "Temporary Internet Files", click on "Delete files" & "Delete Cookies".
- Under "History", click on "Clear History".
- Click on "OK" to save the changes.
Protect your Passwords and Account Information
- Ensure that no one is watching you while you key in your PIN or any other sensitive information.
- Keep your PIN confidential and keep it separate from your card information. Your PIN should be memorized and not recorded anywhere.
- Never lend your card to anyone or accept advice from strangers while you are using it.
- If you need to use a public computer, make sure you do not save your sign-on information when logging in. Clear your browser's memory cache and history after each session so that your account information is removed.
- When using an MPIN for SMS transactions using your mobile phone, regularly check your phone's "sent folder" items and delete any messages that contain personal information such as the MPIN to avoid incidents of the stored information being retrieved by unwanted parties when your phone is lost or stolen. For BancNet mobile banking users, when an enrolled phone is lost or stolen please report immediately to your bank to have your account blocked or return to the BancNet Mobile registration website to generate a new MPIN by entering your ATM card number and ATM PIN.
Use Software Protection
- Make sure that your home computer has the most current anti-virus software. Anti-virus software needs frequent updates to guard against new viruses. Make sure that you download the anti-virus updates as soon as you are notified that a download is available.
- Make sure that your home computer has the most current Spyware scanner software to detect and eliminate spyware. Spyware, commonly known as adaware, keyloggers or Trojans, is embedded on a webpage, e-mail, spam mail or attachments. When you open the infected item, this software is secretly installed onto your computer. Spywares are capable of capturing your keystrokes as you enter your personal or account information online.
- Install a personal firewall to help prevent unauthorized access to your home computer, especially if you connect through a cable or DSL modem.
- Use the latest recommended Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Browser version, or one that supports 128-bit encryption. If you use Internet Explorer, you need to deactivate the "Auto Complete" function to prevent any user ID and PIN from being stored.
- Launch your Internet Explorer and click on "Tools" >> "Internet Options" >> "Content".
- Under "Personal Information", click on "AutoComplete".
- Uncheck "User names and passwords on forms" and click on "Clear Passwords".
- Click on "OK" to save the changes.
- If you are using a Windows OS, ensure File & Print sharing is disabled while online, particularly if you are linked to the Internet via any broadband connection, digital subscriber lines or cable modems.
- Avoid downloading suspicious programs that allow your PC to share files on the Internet.
- Do not install software or run programs of unknown origin.
Monitor Your Transactions
Check your accounts on a regular basis by monitoring your transactions regularly. Review your transaction history and bank statements as soon as you receive them to make sure that your statements reflect your transactions. Immediately report any irregularities.
